Where Early Learning Meets Real-Life Skills.
At NYACC, cooking is more than a fun activity, it’s an essential part of our early education approach. Through hands-on food preparation, children gain valuable experience that touches every developmental domain. From counting and measuring to mixing and following directions, cooking brings together math, literacy, science, and fine motor skills in a joyful, purposeful way.
Children also learn to work cooperatively, explore new tastes and textures, and take pride in preparing something meaningful with their own hands. The kitchen becomes a place for independence, confidence, and creativity to grow.
Why Cooking Matters in Early Education
Current Program
Cooking classes at NYACC are offered seasonally, woven into curriculum themes and tied to nature, holidays, and cultural celebrations. These classes take place in the on-site kitchen and are led by Miss Ana who guides the children through the entire process , from prep to clean-up.
Before the pandemic, cooking was a regular part of NYACC enrichment. As rebuilding continues, the goal is to bring back more frequent cooking opportunities for every age group, offering even more moments for hands-on learning, connection, and joy.
Want to Support ”The Kitchen “ Program?
Cooking is one of the most enriching experiences at NYACC and with a little support, can be offered more often. Donating today helps the kitchen re-stock the pantry and ingredients, child-friendly tools and supplies.
